See my article on the Lakers/Spurs game.

"Damn they caught me...oh well at least I won't get a severe punishment! After all, it's the NCAA!"

Monday 3/7/2011

The biggest piece of news I woke up to Monday morning was that Ohio State Football Head Coach Jim Tressel was informed back in April 2010 that some of his players were selling gear and memorabilia in exchange for free tattoos which lead to five Buckeyes (quarterback Terrelle Pryor, tailback Dan “Boom” Herron, wide receiver DeVier Posey, left tackle Mike Adams, and defensive end Solomon Thomas) being suspended for the first five games of the 2011 season. The suspension was handed down on December 23rd of that year. What really caused controversy Continue reading »

Hope all of you enjoyed losing an hour of sleep. If you have no idea what I’m saying, it’s time to set your clocks an hour ahead. Anyways I’ll be running through a list of games that I’m interested in that will be released this week.

I don’t know if it’s coincidence or not, but all the games I’m interested in are being released on Tuesday March 15th.

Homefront

Genre: FPS

Platform: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC

Developer: Kaos Studios, Digital Extremes (PC)

Publisher: THQ

I’m not gonna lie, this is probably the title I have been anticipating the most this month.  The premise is awesome: set in 2027, North Korea (or a  ”unified” Korea) invades the United States.  You are part of the American Resistance.  Fight back to take control of your homeland.  Pretty  interesting   in my opinion.  I can’t wait to delve into the campaign and learn more about the story.  I’m also excited to test out the multiplayer.  The PC version is  getting exclusive content (yes!!!).  Besides the standard dedicated servers (I just don’t see how you can play without ‘em), the PC  version will also  feature clan support, DirectX 11 graphics, and first person vehicle cockpits (references here and here).  For Metacritic reviews,  click here. Dwyane Wade dribbles past Kobe Bryant 3/10/2011

Editor’s Note: For some reason this post did not appear when it was supposed to. Still trying to figure everything out.

Wow. Just wow.  That pretty much sums up what I feel.  Taking an eight game win streak into Miami, and playing the best basketball in the league, I was sure the Lakers would be able to pull out the “W.”  Looks like I was wrong. There was little chance in my mind that the Heat, who were themselves riding a five game losing streak, could win.  However, it’s like that old proverb says,  ”a wounded tiger is most dangerous when cornered” (or something like that).  The Heat played the role of the wounded tiger tonight perfectly, and the Lakers left Miami with cuts and bruises.

Everyone knows that the Call of Duty franchise is the king of kings in the FPS genre (well for console gaming). With the highly raved Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and its successor, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 has many expectations to meet. Let’s begin. . .

Guess which one is the guy

If you unfamiliar with what a visual novel is click here.

The Parallel

I assume that the majority of the people reading this have watched K-On! or are familiar with what this anime is about. If not, then here’s the entire anime in one sentence: a bunch of girls make a band and vow to become famous, but they just end up drinking tea and eating cake while lounging about. K-on! had a lot of things going for it, except plot. It’s the kind of anime that I watched when I was tired and wanted to sleep. Now imagine K-On! with suspense, drama, and tragedy. In other words, imagine K-On! with an actual plot, and bad things happening (no, not eating cake for one day is not a tragedy). That was what someone I knew promised, and it’s exactly what I got. I'm not gonna lie...I'm addicted

Looking for a fun PC game to play with friends? How about Magicka?  Magicka, which was developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Swedish-based Paradox Interactive, the same people who published Mount and Blade and King Arthur: The Role-playing Wargame, was released on January 25th, 2011 on Steam.  Magicka became an instant, albeit buggy, hit selling 30,000 copies in its first day.  However, the excessive amount of bugs severely hampered the enjoyability of the game.  To date, there have been twelve patches. The eleventh patch even included a DLC pack called “Mea Culpa,” which means “my mistake” in Latin. Thanks to these patches, the game can now be played in all its glory, which is why I am finally writing a review on it.

Lebron James takes a hard foul against the Bulls 3/6/2011

By now I’m sure you’ve all heard about what is now being called “CryGate.”  This whole incident started when Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra addressed the media after a loss to the Chicago Bulls 87-86 on March 6th.  Spoelstra told the media that a “couple of guys [are] crying in the locker room.” What was nothing but (in my opinion) a harmless quote to illustrate the Heat’s desire to win soon turned into a story in which the media could use to further hate on the heavily scrutinized team.

A couple of commentaries and reactions from the media:

Naussicaa???

Out of the winter 2010 line-up, one of the most anticipated anime was Fractale. Directed by Yutaka Yamamoto (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yutsu, Kannagi), story developed by Hiroki Azuma (Database Animals), and screenplay by Mari Okada (Toradora, Vampire Knight), this show seems destined for best anime of this season. This is culture critic Azuma’s first anime project, and most of all, Yamamoto personally staked the future of his directing career by declaring that he will quit if this anime is not a huge success. A lot rides on this anime; this is serious business.

Kobe Bryant takes a shot against the San Antonio Spurs 3/6/2011

Is it safe to say the Lakers are finally playing the type of basketball worthy of defending champs?  Ever since the All-Star break it sure looks like it.  After routing the Spurs 99-83, the Lakers ran their current winning streak to seven games and more importantly made a statement against one of the NBA’s best teams.  If the Lakers win their next game at Atlanta, they will have matched their longest winning streak, which they accomplished at they very beginning of the season.  After traveling to Atlanta, the Lakers finish up a grueling four game road trip at Miami and at Dallas.  Should the Lakers walk away from this road campaign undefeated, talks of a three-peat by Laker fans are sure to begin reaching almost unbearable levels (not that it hasn’t already, but the recent slumps have dampened them somewhat).  I for one have never written off the Lakers.  After all, they are the defending champs.  But I have had my reasons for believing they will not be having a third straight parade this summer.  One of them has always been a topic of debate, and that is Kobe Bryant’s shot selection.  In his last seven games, Bryant has gone 67-148 (45.3%) from the field and 29-33 (87.9%) from the line for a total of 175 points.
