Hey guys and welcome to the last entry in the special “Week of Mecha Monday!”  Friday’s article features a review of the OVA Gunpla Builders Beginnning G.  Hope you enjoy my review!

While attending the 1/1 RX-78-2 Gundam (built in 2009 to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the franchise) display event in Odaiba‘s Shiokaze Park, Haru Irei goes to the merchandise section to choose a Gunpla kit. When he fails to pick up the last available High Grade (HG) 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam kit, he discovers the HG 1/144 GPB-X80 Beginning Gundam and makes it his own. With his newly-assembled kit, Haru participates in Gunpla Battle, a virtual simulation game where players have their Gunpla models scanned and battle each other with them. Continue reading »

Welcome to a very special Manic Movie Magic! Instead of reviewing a film today, I’m going to talk about a topic that bugged me even when I was young: terrible remakes, specifically international ones.

Amen, brother!

Finally. I’ve been waiting forever for this, the English release of Fate/Extra.  First announced this summer at Anime Expo by Siliconera’s liveblog from the Aksys panel, Fate/Extra will makes it’s English debut on November 1st.  Sure it comes a whole year after the Japanese release (July 22, 2010), but we’re still getting it.  Pre-orders are up on Amazon and EBGames for the regular and limited editions.  The limited edition comes with a cool Saber Nero package, artbook, and soundtrack.  Also, if you order through EBGames, you’ll receive a special 20 page magazine called Fate/the Fact. Although I loathe doing so, I will order through EBGames just so I can get that magazine.  I am a collector, through and through. Continue reading »

I’m sure you comic fans have heard by now of some of the moar scandalous scenes in the New 52 run.  Silverwolf touched on it briefly in his recent review of Red Hood and the Outlaws #1, in which Starfire appears in a bikini.  Although he “railed against Starfire’s use as fan service, he won’t deny that she looked good.”  Here’s the scene in question:

Controversy also arose over the sex scene between Batman and Catwoman in Catwoman #1.  THE Fanboy SEO had a good article listing the pros and cons of the Catwoman issue.  Here’s the sex scene in all it’s glory:

Anyways, I just felt like posting this because I think it’s fucking awesome.  I’ve never been much of a DC fan, but these scenes have piqued my interest enough that I may pick up a few issues of the New 52 and see if the stories are actually good. Nonetheless, don’t expect any comic reviews from me.  Look to silverwolf for your comic fix.

Ladies and gentleman, let the madness begin! On September 28th, Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition was made available in the DSi Shop and the 3DS eShop…for free! Anyone can download Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition for free until February 20th, 2012.  As detailed in this IGN article, Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition is no mere port of the GBA version; it’s got a ton of added features, which makes this game an absolute must-have.  For starters, Nintendo has added a whole new single-player campaign for those of you without any friends.  In the single-player adventure, you’re accompanied by another Link with a different color hat; you can switch between the two with the L or R buttons, and you can use the call button to warp the other one back should he stroll off too far. "Don't worry, launching before MW3 is clearly a better strategy."

Ladies and gentlemen, Battlefield 3! And here’s your host, Mr. 10th prestige himself, SIYM1207!

Hello everyone! How’s everyone doing tonight? Good? Good!

This is not a “first impressions” nor a “review” but since the beta is out I figured I would at least give it a go and tell you guys what I think about it. I’m not a Battlefield fan so I went into this a little skeptical considering my less than favorable history with the franchise’s hard-on for big maps and gun physics. Also, rather than just spout my blasphemy in typical paragraph/cunning-wordplay style, I decided to just run everyone through my thought process while playing the beta. So, without further ado, enjoy! Continue reading »

Robot Damashii Festival 2011...wish I was there

It’s time for Thursday post in the special “Week of Mecha Monday” series! Today we’ll be looking at the Robot Damashii figure line.  Robot Damashii is Bandai’s line of articulated figures like Kaiyodo’s Revoltech line and Max Factory’s figma line.  Like the same suggests, the line focuses on robots.  Most of the line features mobile suits from different Gundam shows, but there are also figures featuring mechs from Code Geass, Soukyuu no Fafner, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Full Metal Panic, Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Eureka Seven, Macross Frontier, Zegapain, Star Driver, Heroman, and Gun x Sword.  There are some really great mech figures in this line, and my brothers and I are avid collectors.  As you can see from the picture below, the Tallgeese III I ordered finally arrived.  Some of my favorites that I own include the Sinanju, Cherudim Gundam (and the SAGA version), Seravee Gundam, the original Gundam, and the Laevatein.  The Laevatein, Arbalest, and Falke are the only non-mobile suit Robot Damashii I own.  My youngest brother has a lot of the Code Geass mechs.  So far, the only future releases that are up for sale that I’ve pre-ordered are the Gouf Custom and Strike Rouge IWSP. For a full list (well almost full) of all the Robot Damashii, click here.  You can order them at the usual retailers like amiami, HLJ, or Hobbysearch; some of them are online exclusives, which must be ordered through proxy services like Yokatta or Tokyo-Hunter.

What happens when a guy who came back from the dead, a former drug addict turned soldier of fortune, and an alien ex-slave band together? You get the plot of Red Hood and the Outlaws! This title was the winner of the poll I held a few weeks back and, as promised, I’m reviewing it this week! With a team of characters I have very little exposure to, Red Hood promised to be, at the very least, a new experience for me. But how did this title shape up in general and in relation to the rest of the New 52 I’ve looked at this month?

It’s time for the third edition in the special “Week of Mecha Monday!”  Today’s topic will be “mechanization.”  What is “mechanization?”  It’s taking characters from various anime and turning them into robots (“mechanizing”).  I’ve gathered a gallery of various “mechanization” images for your enjoyment.  So take the time to marvel at some of these well designed creations!   Continue reading »

“Kamehameha” is a series of post where we examine various action scenes from movies, anime, and cartoons, to name a few. It’s name comes from one of the most famous special moves in Dragon Ball Z. We chose a DBZ reference because it’s the definition of an action show…minus the drawn out stare down filler.

Welcome to the second edition of “Kamehameha.”  Today’s article features one of my favorite fight scenes of all time, the chateaux scene from The Matrix Reloaded.  In this scene, we see Neo take on 6 of the Merovingian’s henchmen and completely destroy them.  A few things to note:

  • At the very beginning when the goons attempt to shoot Neo, he uses his awesome bullet-stopping skill to which the Merovingian drops one of the funniest lines in the film: “Ok you have some skill.”
  • To this day, I’m still confused about that Asian in the white’s gender (although I’m inclined to believe it’s a male).
  • The first guy to be disposed of is Abel.  His partner Cain was shot in the head by Persephone in an earlier scene.  Cain and Abel play a prominent role in the video game Enter the Matrix (they’re pretty strong although Neo makes Abel look like a chump).
  • The dude with the weird hair style, tattoo beard, and skin tight clothes has a habit of breaking stuff.  Just watch.
  • There’s one part that really confuses me–at 2:40, you see the aforementioned dude climb the stairs to attack Neo.  However, when the camera changes at 2:41, you see Neo go into a 1-on-1 fight with the Asian in black (which is one of my favorite sequences in the fight), and the dude is nowhere to be seen.  Where exactly did he go?  By the time Neo started engaging in the 1-on-1 fight, the dude should have been there to join in.  Was he helping the dude with the ponytail up? Did he decide to take a water break?  When Neo kicks the Asian in black out of the way at 2:50, guess who’s there to engage Neo? The dude.  This is the only part that confuses me.  Are you saying it took 9 seconds for him to get in on the action even though he would have been able to join in right way? This is just a nit-picky point, and by no means does it lessen the entertainment.  I only noticed this after watching the scene a ton of times, so it’s big deal.  Just thought I’d point an interesting thing out.
