Yesterday, there was a leak of the opening footage for Avatar: Legend of Korra. This is a highly anticipated second-coming of the extremely popular Avatar: The Last Airbender. There’s no news yet on who leaked the video, but it’s probably someone within the company, and it’s very obvious they had the entire episode, which is why it was surprising there’s no full episode floating around. The video of the opening, which mirrors the original with it’s demonstration of the four elements and backstory of the show. In mere hours, the video went viral, getting reposted like crazy on tumblr, facebook, twitter, deviantart, and many others. However, creators Mike and Bryan asked people to stop spreading the material and to remove the video all together. It makes me wonder how this leak may affect the release, which will be terrible if it gets pushed back or cancelled due to this video, and since it’s due mid 2012, we’ll be sure to hear back soon. Ultimately, I feel nothing big is going to occur with its release (the creators didn’t seem too angry) and it’s just nice that die-hard fans got a small peek at what we can expect from this much-awaited new series.
Edit (12/4/2011): Another clip has been leaked! While I cannot in good conscious post the link, it’s floating around tumblr. This clip contains scenes of Korra fire-ending and an old character we used to know. No one knows if it’s a marketing ploy, or someone just posting the episode one bit at a time, but this may not be the last clip leaked.
Edit (12/5/2011): Pictures from the first episode have also been leaked, though no clips. It’s very hard to say what’s going on, but we hope to know soon whose responsible for the leaks.
