Teen Titans Annual #1, Coming in May!

Today, DC announced the first Annual Comic of the DC New Universe (DCnU, the name taken since the start of the New 52 this past September). The issue is titled “Teen Titans Annual #1” and stars the titular Teen Titans as well as the members of Legion Lost. The two groups will come into conflict for an as-of-yet unexplained reason, all while Red Robin leads the Titans in hopes of taking down Harvest, leader of the organization N.O.W.H.E.R.E. whose shadowy goals involve assaulting teenage superheroes. How will the Legion play into this? How will this series tie into the upcoming Ravagers series, also premiering in May? And will this lead us into a new story arc for the Titans?

I personally haven’t been following Teen Titans (though I did read the first issue) but I’ve heard good things about it thus far. This annual definitely has a lot of promise, especially with the team of Lobdell and Booth handling writing and art, respectively. The cover alone is exciting and vivid, and if it’s any indication of the art inside we’re in for a real treat.

I’m more excited for the announcement, however, because it seems to imply that DC will release several more Annual titles for the DCnU. What are they do you ask? That’s anyone’s guess, but I’ll keep you posted when I learn more. Here are some of my predictions:

“Batman Annual #1”: Will tie together the (numerous) Bat-family titles like Batman, Batman and Robin, Detective Comics, Batwoman, Batwing, etc. It may connect, or even conclude, the upcoming “Night of the Owls” event which also spans these titles.

“Superman Annual #1”: Will help transition from the story of the past in the current Action Comics to the modern day stories of Superman.

“Justice League Annual #1”: With the team finally coming together, this issue could showcase how they all function in present day and maybe even introduce a  few new members and even some new foes.

“Green Lantern Annual #1”: There are tons of titles in the Green Lantern mythos right now, so I wouldn’t be surprised if something about the Red Lantern civil war bleeds over into the actions of Hal, Kyle, Sinestro, Guy, John, and all the other Green Lanterns.

“Demon Knights Annual #1”: OK, so I don’t actually believe DC will make this one, but I can dream right? I’d love to see the Demon Knights fighting some sort of one-off monster…maybe a hydra or something?

Anyway, that’s it for today! What are your thoughts on Annual issues? What series would you like to see printed?

THIS JUST IN: DC just announced “Animal Man Annual #1” as well, with a tie-in to Swamp Thing. Check out the awesome cover below:
