Although I’m no fan of delays, it’s at least commendable of Bioware to be giving the fans little teasers like the one above. This time, a voice cast reveal highlighting some of Mass Effect’s key players and fan favorites. Unfortunately, Yvonne Strahovski is still nowhere to be found. I’m sure I’ll soon realize why her role is being kept so hush-hush (among others) but it sucks to consider the possibility that one of your favorite characters could end up being sidelined and existing only for support. Still, being the loyal fan that I am, I trust Casey Hudson and his team to do everyone justice in Mass Effect 3. Shepard couldn’t do it without ‘em . . . well, maybe not ALL of them. Seriosuly, what else does Garrus do besides calibrations? And Kelly? She basically exists to make you feel better about yourself. Legion? It practically thinks at the speed of light. How long could it take to build a consensus? ^_^ I kid, I love them all.

Also, I’ve recently been reading the latest Mass Effect novel “Deception” and loving every minute of it. However, I found out today that some fans haven’t been too happy about it. Apparently, the book (understood to be canon) had some “over-sight” errors and fans suggest that it be corrected or simply taken as “alternate universe.” I haven’t finished the book so I’m not entirely sure where the inconsistencies are but I may put up a review in the near future once I finish it. Here’s the apology from Bioware. Cheers!

“Kamehameha” is a series of post where we examine various action scenes from movies, anime, and cartoons, to name a few. It’s name comes from one of the most famous special moves in Dragon Ball Z. We chose a DBZ reference because it’s the definition of an action show…minus the drawn out stare down filler.

I’ve been on a Super Sentai/Power Ranger addiction lately; I’m currently watching Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (the most recent Super Sentai show), which is set to end February 19th.  And I just figured out that every season of Power Rangers is available for free streaming on Amazon if you have a Prime membership (which I do).  Since it’s the Year of the Dragon, I thought that this week’s “Kamehameha” should revolve around a dragon.  And since I’m on a Power Ranger binge, I thought I’d feature a Zord (sorry Dragonzord…you didn’t make the cut).

  • The Red Dragon Thunderzord has been my favorite Zord since I was a little kid.  No other Zord comes close.
  • Why is this?  I loved the fact that it could transform into a robot mode.
  • The robot mode wasn’t bulky.  It was very sleek.  Therefore, the movements didn’t look funny.  The way it is controlled (not shown in the American footage) is akin to the way Gundams are piloted in G Gundam.  In essence, it was just a larger Power Ranger.
  • It’s finishing move is badass.  Watching the zord twirl that bo staff with all the flower petals floating around was awesome.

It’s the first week of the month and you know what that means: time for me to revisit the continuing tale of my favorite bowman, Green Arrow. Lately, the Emerald Archer has received a lot of media attention with not only his Justice League debut coming in Issue #8 but also a proposed television pilot, which I hope is good enough to become a full-fledged series. The pilot builds off the character’s popularity in Smallville but with decidedly different slants (take a look at some information regarding the cast of characters here).

Clearly, there’s been a lot of media buzz about Green Arrow. Ultimately, however, it’s his own comic title that holds the most weight for me and most GA fans. Things were a bit bumpy for the first few issues, but started to turn around in Issue #4. This week’s release, Issue #6, is the last one featuring Dan Jurgens and Keith Giffen as Ann Nocenti and Harvey Tolibao are taking over the writing and art, respectively, starting with Issue #7. Did Jurgens and Giffen finish their run well or will the series require another “mini reboot” in its next title?

The long and winding road...

NOTE: Yes it’s Wednesday. But I wanted to wait until the start of the new month to write this.  This is going to be a new column on the site focusing on my thoughts about blogging and such, as well as site updates.  The title was inspired by the popular book Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.

Hello readers of Moar Powah! This past month I’ve had to do a little self-assessment of sorts.  Basically, I asked myself if blogging was worth it.  In the summer, my posting drastically reduced due to my job.  Thankfully, that’s about the same time I started bringing on moar writers to help keep the site going.  Then in the fall, I started up again, only to lull in and out of posting due to personal and health reasons.  Now it’s the beginning of February, and looking back at the past month, my posting has been a bit paltry.  I have come to the conclusion that I simply find writing a chore.  It’s not like I have a shortage of ideas nor have I lost interest in the subject matter.  But right now, I just don’t feel like writing (moar in-depth explanation in a bit).  Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not disappearing; a lot of discussion happened last week when 2DT announced his farewell.  Fellow blogger Charles of Beneath the Tangles wrote a nice tribute post to 2DT.  Akira of Moe Fundamentalism did as well.  And AceRailgun touched on the reasons why a blog dies.   Continue reading »

So today, when I got home from classes, I thought ‘I really want to review Sayonara no Tsubasa’. I hadn’t watched the movie (well, not fully anyway) due to a variety of reasons, but I thought this would be a good way to force me to watch it. So I did, and here we are. To start, Macross is a series in Japan (and in the US too, under the moniker Robotech, but that’s a whole other can of worms) and has spawned several series. It’s a little bit like Gundam, if you confine it to all of the Universal Century stuff, since all the Macross stuff is part of the same universe.

The latest incarnation in these series is Macross Frontier, a TV series airing from April to September of 2008. And it was immensely popular. Enough so to spawn two movies, that… Borrow heavily from the series. Kind of a re-imaging, if you will. Those two are called Itsuwari no Utahime (The False Songstress) and Sayonara no Tsubasa (Wings of Goodbye), and of course I’m reviewing the second of those two. It’s a little weird for me to start on the second movie, I know, but I wanted to get it all while it was fresh on my mind. I promise to do The False Songstress next week.

This movie's about people with plant faces making out. Yep. That's it. ... In all honesty, opening with a scene like this was really bizarre (and even worse since it was accompanied by my least favorite song in the movie).
