This edition of “Mecha Monday” will be focusing on Char Aznable related merchandise. I did a character spotlight on The Red Comet quite some time ago, and I felt it would be a good time to do this post when I saw a certain piece of news. What news is that, you ask?
Toyota will sell “Char Aznable” Gundam-themed Auris.
Yup. There’s an actual Char car coming out. It’s adorned with Zeon symbols and even has the custom fin on top. I first saw this on Sankaku Complex, and you can check out the specific post for more pics. I found it particularly cool that they got Char’s seiyuu Shuichi Ikeda to come speak.
I remember having this article from Japanator bookmarked for a long time. I want that moped.
Japanese blogger meikyousisui_22 has a custom Char motorcycle. Jelly.
Char Motorcycle Helmet
Back in May 2012, LaLaBit Market, Namco Bandai Games’ e-commerce site, was selling ‘Mobile Suit Gundam Motorcycle Helmet Type Char4′, based on the ‘Red Comet’ Char Aznable. It was a single production run with each helmet being sold for 31,500 yen. Wow.
Char Gamecube, Gameboy Advance SP, and 3DS
I included a pic of the Char Gamecube and Gameboy Advance SP in my first Char post. In December of 2011, Namco Bandai released a limited edition red Nintendo 3DS with SD Gundam G Generations 3D. The unit, dubbed the Char Senryō Nintendo 3DS (Char’s Personal Nintendo 3DS), features a red finish, series character Char Aznable’s golden Zeon insignia and black silhouettes of the The Red Comet along with a quote that says, “In war, to keep the upper hand, you have to think two or three moves ahead of the enemy.” It retailed for 21,090 yen.
Char Credit Card
Also featured in my original Char post. On July 25, 2006, GE Consumer Finance released a Char Custom credit card, which receives 3 times as many bonus points per 1000 yen spent compared to their other Gundam-related credit cards.
Japanese manufactuer COSPA has released numerous Char related merchandise. I own the mug and cellphone pouch.
Also, there’s Old Spice!
