San Diego Comic Con, the biggest pop culture convention in the world, wrapped up last Sunday. Dozens of companies released tons of new information about what projects they’re working on and releasing over the next few years. Here are the five that got me the most excited!
5. Cobie Smulders on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Cobie Smulders rose to prominence through her role as Robin on How I Met Your Mother. She showed comedy isn’t the only weapon in her repetoire when she played Maria Hill in The Avengers. When Marvel announced the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., many speculated that she’d return as Maria Hill. Well, as of this weekend, Marvel confirmed that suspicion. Smulders is a talented actress, and I’m fairly excited to see what she’ll bring to the table.
4. Updated information and trailer for Arkham Origins
The Arkham series is two for two so far, with the amazing games of Asylum and City receving high acclaim. The announcement of Arkham Origins earlier this year brought a strong share of excitement, and this weekend revealed more information, including that the villain Copperhead will not only be a major antagonist, but also that she’ll be female this time around. I still don’t own a system to play the game on, but maybe that’ll change before the game releases this Fall.
3. Superman/Batman film
I loved Man of Steel, so any news about the upcoming sequel is sure to interest me. Warner Bros. is slowly building the DC cinematic universe, which I think is a smart move (more on that in a minute). Obviously, everyone knows who Batman is, so a reboot of the character/franchise isn’t even remotely necessary. The fact that these two titans of pop culture (and DC’s pocketbook) haven’t appeared together in film yet is a travesty. There were discussions of a Batman vs. Supermnan movie over a decade ago, but they never panned out. Here’s hoping this team up can satisfy the fans’ dreams, and finally settle who would win a fight between the two (hint: it’s the guy who can fly).
2. Michael Jai White on Arrow
Ever since I saw the movie Black Dynamite, I’ve loved Michael Jai White and wanted to see more of his work. Aside from being a talented actor, the man is a legitimate martial artist, holding seven black belts in various styles. I can’t think of anyone better to play the role of Bronze Tiger, and the fact that the entire Suicide Squad is showing up on Arrow season two is just icing on the cake.
1. Upcoming Flash Movie
As I mentioned earlier, the DC Cinematic Universe is on the way. Whether or not it’ll be properly executed and as successful as Marvel’s films is anyone’s guess, but for now at least we know another hero is getting the spotlight come 2016: The Flash. The movie is still in the planning stages, but I’m excited to see the Scarlet Speedster grace the silver screen.
