Overwatch Release Date, Open Beta, and Special Editions Revealed


Overwatch, Blizzard’s upcoming team-base shooter, has a release date. Players can pick the game up on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on May 24th. There will also be a free open beta on all three platforms May 5-9.

Blizzard also revealed details on the various editions players could purchase. First up is a $130 retail-only collector’s edition that includes “a full-color visual sourcebook, the Overwatch soundtrack,” and a statue of Soldier: 76.

There’s also the “Origin Edition”. which includes “Overwatch-themed content for several Blizzard Entertainment games,” such as a Baby Winston World of Warcraft pet, a Tracer hero for Heroes of the Storm, and more. If players pre-order the “Origin Edition”, they also get access to skins for five characters: “Blackwatch Reyes (Reaper), Strike-Commander Morrison (Soldier: 76), Overgrown Bastion, Security Chief Pharah, and Slipstream Tracer.” The skins are based on characters’ “storied pasts.” Finally, pre-ordering entitles Xbox One and PS4 players to a “two-day head start” for the open beta, as well as a friend invite.

The “Origin Edition” of Overwatch is $60 and can be pre-ordered right now through the game’s official site.
