payday2-promo

Overkill Software has announced that Payday 2 will no longer just be a downloadable release.

“We have a bit of a problem here at Overkill – there are just too many great ideas and none that we were really happy to throw out – so Payday 2 has become just too big to reserve release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network alone,” said Payday 2 director David Goldfarb, who was previously lead designer of Battlefield 3.

Thus, retail versions will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Payday 2 is set to be released this August. In the meantime, check out how to make bank in the original Payday, which as of October 2012 has sold 700,000 copies.

demon knights #23

A great day of mourning has finally arrived. Today, DC Comics released their full solicitations for the month of August 2013. Every month, I’ve eagerly awaited reading about the upcoming comics, especially about my favorite series Demon Knights. Sadly, this series ends with Issue #23 (ironically, 23 is my lucky number). This comes on the heels of my review of the recent Demon Knights #20the start of a new arc that sadly will close out this amazing tale.

Honestly, this comic is the best thing I’ve read from DC in the last few years. It’s been full of great art, witty writing, and an enjoyable cast of characters. I’ll really miss this series, which truly gave me all I could ask for and more from a fantasy title.

Sadly, sales figures did this series in, but Demon Knights is not alone. Several other series are also set to receive the ax come August, though I don’t read any of them:

-Dial H (which I’ve heard great things about)

-Legion of Super-Heroes

-Threshold

In the wake of these cancellations, I’m wondering if DC plans to add any new titles to their lineup come August (since “New 52″ is currently more like “New 50″ even before this news). Obviously, I’m holding out for an Amethyst solo title (since my other fantasy love Sword of Sorcery ends this week). I just pray we don’t get yet another Batman title. On the bright side, at least Robert Venditti is staying with DC to write Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps, the latter of which will reunite him with Demon Knights alum Bernard Chang.

Yesterday the news  that was buzzing around the internet was the looming negotiations between Robert Downey Jr. and Marvel Studios since Downey’s contract had expired after the release of Iron Man 3As one of the best paid actors in the Marvel movie franchise (reportedly earning $50 million for The Avengers), Downey has been in four movies total, and is now in talks to be in the remaining films of the Avengers trilogy. As of this morning, however, it has been reported that in these negotiations, there has been no mention of Iron Man 4. There could be several reasons for this including Downey’s other projects, a desire to retire in the near future, a discussion of a shortened contracted to allow for re-negotiations later, or perhaps that he is going to bow out as Iron Man after the third Avenger’s film.

iron-man-3-tony-stark

The main theory that seems to be rampant about the whole affair is that Downey is using his leverage as Marvel’s biggest bread winner to force Marvel to re-negotiate for the rest of the cast by threatening to not appear for Iron Man 4. Marvel has a history with issues concerning actor’s salaries for various films. Samuel L. Jackson fought for better pay back  in 2009, and Terrence Howard was dropped from the role of Lt. Col James Rhodes when he demanded higher pay, only to be replaced in subsequent Iron Man films by Don Cheadle. Chris Hemsworth has reportedly not yet been signed up for Avengers 2, and there are rumors that Scarlett Johansson is not going to take a pay cut for said film. Marvel has already threatened to replace Hemsworth in the film, or to remove the Thor character from the film all together. Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L Jackson are all signed on for the project, which is set to release in 2015.

If the negotiations do not work in Downey’s favor and he is dropped, many fans agree that it would be hard to see anyone but him piloting that iconic metal suit on screen.

snow-mikus

Every year since 2010, Good Smile Company releases a Winter-themed Snow Miku nendoroid. 2013, however, was the first time fans designed and voted on the final product (that shiromuku is so cute). 2014 will give fans another opportunity to design a Miku. Straight from Mamitan’s blog:

The design for Snow Miku’s outfit must also include a magical staff, as no magical girl is complete without her trusty staff! We look forward to seeing everyone’s lovely design ideas!

However the outfit is not the only thing we’re looking for this time! We’re also looking for the design of Magical Girl Snow Miku’s pet! The pet should also have a snowy, crystal or Winter theme, and should be based on an animal found in Hokkaido. We hope to see many cute and creative pets for Snow Miku 2014!

So there you have it. You can read more about the rules and how to enter on Mamitan’s blog. Although I will mention here that the deadline for entries is 13 May 2013 at 16:00JST.

Here are the entry galleries for the outfit and pet designs:
