. . . and then there were 4

Dear MoarPowah!, I come before you with most regrettable news. No, I haven’t been cheating on you. No, I’m not doing crack. No, I’m not illegal. And, hell no, Mass Effect does not rank higher than your awesomeness . . . well, hypothetically, IF it did, it wouldn’t be by that much.

No seriously, time for an update. I am, as of the last week, no longer a computer gamer. Long story short, I can’t keep up (financially) with PC gaming. That also means that The Old Republic will be off the Warpath. It’s a shame because I recently had the opportunity to play the beta and the impressions I got were very impressive. Still, I’m no MMO player so it would have been difficult for me to judge it without having played other games of its genre.

Now for some good news! Soon enough, I’ll be the proud owner of a PS3. A product I’ve been wanting for the longest time. Having one console is pretty cool but having BOTH (PS3 and 360) is a real advantage, especially when playing with friends of different platforms. Better yet, I’m also moving my Mass Effect efforts over to the SONY side of gaming. Not only will this be a refreshing experience to play on a new console, I’ll also be able to take full advantage of the co-op feature that Mass Effect 3 will have. Good things!

To wrap this up, the remaining contestants of Project Warpath (at time of writing) are “Bioshock: Infinite” and “Mass Effect 3.” I may (not certain yet) add to this list for some more interesting competition but for now it stands as it is. As mentioned before, the “field report” will come at the very end of all the Warpathin’ shenanigans but every now and again I’ll be listing some pre-reports that indicate the current contenders’ rankings. Sorry MW3, I think you and I both know that beating up homeless people with a giant purple dildo is far more entertaining than Captain Price-punching the snot out of Makarov.

Field Report (so far)

1) Saints Row: The Third

2) Modern Warfare 3

It happens . . .

Well, well, I guess you can’t have it all. I can’t even begin to describe how frustrating these past 2 days have been. Long story short, my internet decided to epically fail me in ways I haven’t seen since the dark ages of AOL, couldn’t upload any videos, missed out on my own “SIYM Friday,” and (just when I was about to make a comeback today) the connectivity-fail got me again. I apologize to any SIYM viewers for the inconvenience. To make it up to you guys, I’m going to make this next Thursday a double-feature. The post will include my promised review of MW3 and the first impressions video that I wanted to have up yesterday but couldn’t. Doing it this way, I’ll be able to have all my MW3 content in one place and still be able to have a first impressions of Saints Row the immediate Friday. Hope everyone’s been doing well and (to all you Modern Warfare soldiers) Hoorah!

Hello readers of Moar Powah!  It’s been a while! Last weekend, I attended NYCC/NYAF, and there were plenty of great things to see.  I will eventually get around to posting such material this week and have a checklist as well.  Cheshire has done her reporting already, and Silverwolf has already put up a great review of Creature Entertainment’s Forgive Me Father.  Here are a few other things to take note of:

  • The vlogs are a little delayed. Mostly scheduling issues with the rest of the staff.  I think I will post them every Wednesday Thursday.
  • My presence on the site.  I’ve been very up and down in terms of my posting.  This is due to various reasons.  Most of the time, it has been to work and school.  But there’s also been an element of stress and confusion due to personal issues.  I obviously won’t divulge said issues because they’re personal, but I think it’s important to mention that it’s been affecting all areas of my life, besides my work on this website.  Hopefully, I can start to turn things around–it’s been really rough.

Happy Friday Powah Playas! How about some moar Mass Effect?

Good news! By the graciously condescending autonomy of Mr. Judge himself, I have finally figured out how to properly embed YouTube into my presentations! Expect more visual postings from SIYM in the coming weeks. In the meantime, enjoy this little gem I found a few weeks ago. Should incite some LOL’s. Maybe…

Hello readers of Moar Powah! It’s time for another update.  In my September update post, I stated that I wanted to bring moar daily content.  In August we had 50 posts, and I wanted to reach 100 in September.  Well obviously we didn’t reach that number, but nonetheless, we were still consistent.  Hopefully, we can reach 100 this month…or next month, or the month after that.  Bottom line is to take baby steps.  Also, we’ve made slight redesigns like last month, most notably the background.

There are two things I want to start doing moar in the coming months.  The first is getting our mascot Jack moar exposure.  What do I mean by that? Well, most of you only know Jack through  two things: 1) his catch phrase is the name of this website and 2) the funny pictures that our artist pluffei draws of him (including “Guoventures”).  Some of you might have been able to infer bits about him, like the fact he’s a lazy, unclean otaku.  Sounds like a lot of otaku right? Wrong, there’s moar to him than that!  Soon, we’re going to get a web comic going involving Jack and his new fictional partner that we recently created Jill Masamune. (Get it? Jack and Jill? And don’t ask about the last name of Jill…that was pluffei’s idea, and she has the right to name her whatever she wants since it’s her OC.) In order to completely understand what we’re going to depict, you need to know his history.  Which brings me my second point. Vlogging.  We’re going to start doing Moar Powah! vlogs on a (hopefully) weekly basis.  The vlog will feature our writers discussing various topics of interest.  The topics will cover recent or new things (like the Fall 2011 anime season, or a movie or video game that just came out), and it will give our writers a chance to talk about things that they normally wouldn’t cover in their articles.  As a special treat, I’m happy to announce that I’ve already started to get the ball rolling on these two points; check out Moar Powah’s first vlog, which focuses on the life and times of Jack Guo! And yes it’s very messy…cut me some slack! The next one will be a lot better, promise!

So boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen…I’m sure you have all heard and probably seen (if you haven’t GO WATCH THEM NOW!) my Left 4 Dead 2 Videos that I post on my YouTube channel. You all are probably going, “Well LIFE, I have seen them, but how do you make them?” The answer to that question my good friend is right here. Here is the process (a rough draft of it at least) of how I make my Left 4 Dead 2 videos. I use Sony Vegas Pro 10 by the way for my editing.

Step 1. First off you must record the content. The dialogue needs to be funny, and more importantly just enjoy yourself. Play with friends and just screw around and such and when you go back and watch the film you will see what is funny or not. So write it down folks. Play with your friends and record with a recording software such as Fraps or Playclaw. Hint: When you record, make sure the output file is going to a separate hardrive on what the game is actually installed onto. This helps your processors and other computing things. That’s right folks! The only thing more attention-grabbing to SIYM than Mass Effect 3 intel is new Nickelback music! Right now on their official site, Chad Kroeger and Co. have got 2 new tunes ready for listening, and trust me when I say that they ROCK! Their new album “Here and Now” is set to launch on the 21st of November and it’s sure to be a winner. Stay tuned, or follow them on Twitter! Here they are as follows:

(Bottoms Up): Self-Explanatory to the maximum. What many have already considered their “new drinking song.” Huge beats and epic guitar work complete with a solo. While some may bash this tune for weak lyrical meaning, it’s nothing but fun. And fun should always be the bottom line! So . . . BOTTOMS UP!!!

(When We Stand Together): I knew from the moment I read the title that this was going to be some sort of cheesy ballad about how the world needs to put aside the Call-of-Duty-esque rage and start loving one another. Although that presumption was right on the money, the song itself (musically) caught me off guard. This is truly one of Nickelback’s best attempts at breaking from the template they usually settle with when re-writing melodies. Good song!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Just so everyone knows, I’m a huge Nickelback fan. Almost with the same intensity as Mass Effect. Not quite as much, but you get the point. With that said, I’m also extremely familiar with all the negativity they receive. I’ll freely admit that Nickelback are not necessarily thought-provoking or innovators of the musical age, but there is one thing that they are: Critic-Proof

There is literally no conceivable amount of hate Nickelback could receive that would change anything about them or their music. Why would it? They’re one of the most successful groups of our generation and with all the multi-platinum’s they’ve amassed over the years it’s painfully obvious that they’ve long since struck a formula that works/sells. As biased as I might be on this issue, there’s no doubt that Nickelback are clearly having fun doing what they do. Yeah, there’s alot less personality and alot more business these days when it comes to music (mainstream especially) but in the case of Nickelback, wouldn’t you rather have a good time than spend an hour listening to auto-tuned twelve-year-olds?

So ladies and gents I am sorry for the delay of this post but it is what it is, right…? Erm moving on. Some of you may know Andy Whitfield, whether it be from the TV show Spartacus: Blood and Sand or from the freddiew video that I posted in my last entry. On September 11, 2011 (eerie eh?), Andy Whitfield passed away. Sad, yes. Very sad, even more so. Mr. Whitfield died from  non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was diagnosed in March 2010 and managed to battle it for 18 months. All that aside he was a great actor and I will miss him dearly as I am sure all of his fans, family, and friends will.

Whitfield as Spartacus.

Whitfield died in Australia with his family and wife by his side. He was only 39 when he passed away. This post is for a tribute to him and I know it is literally 9 days late but still, I wanted to post this. He was one of my favorite actors and I enjoyed his role in Spartacus Blood and Sand and more importantly freddiew ‘s video haha. But ladies and gents that is all for you today and I would just like to say: Have a nice day!

In Cheshire’s extremely biased opinion

Adventure Time with Finn and Jake represents some of the best programming Cartoon Network has ever had to offer. Even compared to the “classic” Cartoon Network shows from the ’90s (The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, etc.,) Adventure Time is excellent. I’m saving that discussion, however, for another day. Right now, I’d rather focus on the characters that populate Adventure Time’s remarkably well-developed world, The Land of Ooo. As I mentioned in my My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic review, many current cartoon creators and writers are creating a cohesive world for their work, and I absolutely love it. A large part of achieving this task is taking the time to give attention to background characters, so I’d like to share my personal, completely biased list of the top ten best minor characters on Adventure Time.
