Almost every anime has a natsumatsuri (summer festival) episode, fully decked with girls in yukata, delicious food stands and kids’ games. As a theme almost as commonplace as the beach episode, it’s unfortunate that those of us outside of Japan will likely never be able to experience such an event. So, when I learned of Mitsuwa’s Summer Festival, you can bet I was set on going even if it killed me!

Without further ado, let’s dig in! Itadakimasu~ Continue reading »

After editing like a madman, here it is… My Otakon photos are complete!

A few weeks ago, I had the luxury of going to the east coast’s biggest convention, Otakon, down in Baltimore, MD. How did it go? Find out!

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of going to a huge, amazing convention held annually in the United States. No, I didn’t go to San Diego Comic Con, but I did have the opportunity to attend the amazing ConnectiCon in Hartford, CT. Last year was my first time at ConnectiCon and I had an amazing time, but how would this year fare in comparison? With a heart full of high hopes and an Ash Ketchum costume gracing my figure, I headed to the center of the Nutmeg State to find out exactly what this convention was all about.

Happy Independence Day everyone! So the season ended a while ago, but I didn’t figure to write this until today. Why? Well, I figured I’d eventually write reviews for all the anime I’ve watched, but considering my endless list, that’ll take forever. Plus, there’s no guarantee that I’ll even want to review some of the stuff I watched… So I decided to just jot down some of my thoughts on the anime I watched this season. Therefore, major spoilers alert! You’ve been given fair warning…

Spring 2012

Anyway, let’s just dig in! Itadakimasu~ Continue reading »

And last of the Big Three conferences is Nintendo’s.  With the new Wii U console looming, Nintendo had a much larger task this E3.  Rather than coasting, which is what Microsoft and Sony seemed to do, Nintendo had to sell the Wii U to the audience.  Nintendo started off pretty strong with this.  They aired a pre-E3 presentation, which illustrated the Wii U’s numerous features.  Many of the features listed were pretty cool, and were set to literally appeal to every audience: casuals, core gamers, you name it.  However, once we get to their conference, things start to go downhill.

Like Microsoft, Sony had both games and gimmicks at their conference.  On one hand, while I liked the games shown at Sony’s conference a lot more, I think Sony’s failings were a good deal more disheartening.  It’s kind of a painful conference, really, and not because it was boring.

Well, E3 2012 has come and gone, and like anyone who followed it, I have quite a few opinions on it.  But that’s no surprise; E3 is where most companies show you what they want you to see the most (for that year), and I’m sure that these companies want you to talk about their achievements, developments, reveals, and the like.  So I’ll be happy to oblige.  First off, we’re starting with Microsoft, a company that has failed to really impress at E3 the past few years.  And this year happens to be more of the same, though with a few twists.

The Inverseman goes international to continue his warpath of conquest of the human world but he took a wrong turn and ended up in an anime convention.

Last week I had the pleasure of going all the way up to Toronto for Anime North 2012, and I gotta say, Canada doesn’t skimp out on their cons. Maybe it’s because of the huge Asian population in Toronto? Let’s dive in eh?

Much like how I posted my Anime Boston 2011 recap really late, 2012′s recap is also coming pretty late, considering most bloggers have already shared their experiences (check out fellow writer Laevatein’s recap and check out Organization Anti-Social Geniuses’ Reference Resource Monday post for moar AB 2012 coverage).

I’ll get straight to the point and won’t bore you with details: I enjoyed AB 2012. There. Mainly because it was my first time going as press. I didn’t spend much time in the dealer’s room since I was running around so much trying to cover a lot. This probably helped curb my spending, although I dropped some cash in the Artist Alley. Nothing really changed from the past two years: it’s fairly organized, clean, and spacious. They did move the autograph signing to a different area, which was a big plus.

The most enjoyable part was meeting Kirk Thornton. I also got to get in touch again with David White, the awesome mecha illustrator I interviewed at last year’s NYCC. And I met a few bloggers in person: Justin from OASG and The Paper from Anime Diet. How were the panels? Let’s grade ‘em. Continue reading »

(Want a second opinion? Check out  Laevatein’s review! )

Oh my God. OH MY GOD.

This movie. THIS MOVIE RIGHT HERE.

Take my advice, go see it. Don’t like scary movies? Go see it. Hated Cloverfield? GO SEE IT.  Have final exams? SCREW YOUR FINALS, GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

This whole review is going to be littered in spoilers. Usually, I don’t care about spoiling it for you guys, but this movie is so much better when you don’t know what’s coming. All you need to know if FIVE STARS – GO SEE IT NOW! GO! STOP READING THIS AND GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW!

The only reason I am writing spoilers is because I know there actually people out there who won’t see this film until they know what it’s really about first, which is fine, and I am usually one of those people. Also, I’d like to talk about the film in-depth about what I liked and, surprisingly, didn’t like.

So, click ahead if you dare, cause this week on Manic Movie Magic, we’re talking about The Cabin in the Woods
