If every culture shares one same TV program that varies only in language – soap operas. From American daytime soaps, to Spanish-language telenovas of my youth, to even the tear-jerks of Japan, every country has it’s own series whose complex story lines and will-they-won’t-they couples capture the imaginations of audiences everywhere. But the most popular in the 21st century have to be the ones produced in Korean.

Yes, in the land of K-Pop idols, and delicious food, comes some of the best made and most compelling dramas this side of the equator, filled with multiple story lines, intriguing and complex characters, and of course that perfect blend of drama and humor.

So, let’s not waste more time, and dive into Protect the Boss.

I tried to keep it all bottled up inside. I tried so hard to bury it down as deep as it would go. I tried to put it in that dark place where all the rage and hatred in my heart for stupid people and awful movies…but I can’t. I refuse to. And so, let’s talk about the Glee season 3 finale.

Shut up, I know, Glee is stupid and for people much younger than me and so on and so forth. But it’s like Heroes – the first season was so good, I can’t stop now. But my God, if anything could make me turn my back on this show, it would be this insulting finale. Spoiler Alert Abound, y’all.

Appropriate Glee Screenshot is appropriate.

Snow White Puts Her Big Boy Pants On:
What This Princess’s Media Makeover Says About Modern-Day Femininity

Disney’s Snow White (1937) and Once Upon a Time’s Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) (2012)

Everyone knows the story of Snow White:  a young princess is forced to flee from a wicked, vain queen and finds herself in the company of a group of tiny dwarf miners, until her prince comes along and saves her from her poison-apple-induced sleep.  For years, children worldwide have watched the iconic Disney film and seen its characters plastered on every type of merchandise imaginable.  And the message this burned into the memory of little girls everywhere is clear: true love conquers all. Ah, yes, Joss Whedon’s cult classic…well, one of them, the space-Western Firefly. I am going to be a very honest, and bad, Internet reviewer/fangirl and tell you all I never had any interest in this show until this year. That’s right – I had heard of the show, and it’s fans, and how it would never get a second season and it just never caught my interest.

But then a friend of mine strapped me down to a chair and forced me to watch it. Now, I love it, and I’m dying for someone to make a second season of it. But is it really as good as I think? As most of the Internet thinks?

This month on Stay Tuned, let’s take a good look at Firefly.

Starshine: Welcome dear readers to another Objection! I’m Starshine.

Silverwolf: And I’m Silverwolf and today we’re going to have the age old debate of which is superior: Star Wars or Star Trek. I’m on Team Star Wars.

Starshine: And I am on Team Star Trek. So, silverwolf, I’m going to let you throwdown first: Why do you feel Star Wars is superior?

Silverwolf: Well, I feel like Star Wars is more accessible: you can get a lot out of it just by watching the first film, A New Hope, whereas Star Trek is more distancing since you’d have the watch a few episodes to be compelled. I also enjoy Star Wars more, but that’s a personal preference

Starshine: I’m going to put it out there, I saw Star Wars first. First, Episode I, then Episodes IV-VI, and then the rest of prequels and I do enjoy the films, but I cannot deny Star Trek is superior only because it’s more original, multilayered, and way ahead of its time in terms of casting and storyline…and the fact that the Skywalkers whine all the freaking time.

Silverwolf: I mean, I don’t think that makes the entirety of SW inferior and, if you think about it, both of them have reasons to whine. My gripe is the acting for how Anakin whines, but honestly I’d be pretty emo if I’d grown up as a slave, was banned from loving the love of my life, and had to watch my mother die after being tortured. Additionally, Luke had a damn boring life, and I think every 19 year old complains about a dull life at SOME point.

Starshine: True but they just make them sound obnoxious – you can do whining well, and with purpose but it feels disjointed. I understand Anakin’s pain…

Silverwolf: Well, if we’re going to complain about acting I have 2.5 words for you: James T. Kirk. William Shatner is more wooden than Pinoccho!

Starshine: Woah, woah woah this is not about acting this is about screen writing but if you wanna bring Shatner into this, at least Shatner can emote! And uses his hamminess to aid his appeal!

Yesterday, there was a leak of the opening footage for Avatar: Legend of Korra. This is a highly anticipated second-coming of the extremely popular Avatar: The Last Airbender. There’s no news yet on who leaked the video, but it’s probably someone within the company, and it’s very obvious they had the entire episode, which is why it was surprising there’s no full episode floating around. The video of the opening, which mirrors the original with it’s demonstration of the four elements and backstory of the show. In mere hours, the video went viral, getting reposted like crazy on tumblr, facebook, twitter, deviantart, and many others. However, creators Mike and Bryan asked people to stop spreading the material and to remove the video all together. It makes me wonder how this leak may affect the release, which will be terrible if it gets pushed back or cancelled due to this video, and since it’s due mid 2012, we’ll be sure to hear back soon. Ultimately, I feel nothing big is going to occur with its release (the creators didn’t seem too angry) and it’s just nice that die-hard fans got a small peek at what we can expect from this much-awaited new series.

Edit (12/4/2011): Another clip has been leaked! While I cannot in good conscious post the link, it’s floating around tumblr. This clip contains scenes of Korra fire-ending and an old character we used to know. No one knows if it’s a marketing ploy, or someone just posting the episode one bit at a time, but this may not be the last clip leaked.

Edit (12/5/2011): Pictures from the first episode have also been leaked, though no clips. It’s very hard to say what’s going on, but we hope to know soon whose responsible for the leaks.

So let me get this straight, so the source material is somewhat sparse but gives  great characters. There is a sprawling fan community creating art, stories, games, music, and much much more. This question is easy! “Alex. What is Touhou?”  “Oooh, so close. The correct answer was ‘What is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?’”

What’s up everypony? The inverseman is here again this time with commentary. By the way, Cheshire had a wonderfully insightful piece on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, as Western animation is her forte. So let’s have some east meets west.

The phenomenon sweeping the nation is fan-generated content, doujinshi, taking hold everywhere across the nation. Seeing the huge amount of MLP:FiM content growing over the months at comic conventions and even anime conventions is staggering. From fan art, to libraries of fanfics, and all-out fan videos, games, and music, the United States has very industrious pony fans. This is nothing new to Japan but seeing America take it on does my heart good. After all, series like Touhou Project have huge followings that even deserve their own conventions, and the US is catching up with its own brony cons. So then, what are the elements that trigger these huge doujinshi cultures?

Once upon a time, CBS made a show that was trying new things and being really interesting, and it flopped like a rock. This is a story we hear time and time again. Sometimes, it’s deserving…and sometimes it’s not.

This show is the latter case.

This month on Stay Tuned!, I’m going to be talking all about a little known murder-mystery gore-fest entitled Harper’s Island.
