"Hmm, I wonder what sort of review Laevatein has for this wee-- oh crap, this looks too old! Too old!"

Greetings readers! MOON. (that period is a part of the name) just happens to be the only visual novel I’ve read that was released before 2000. Why did I point that out? MOON. happens to represent the ’90′s style of doing things quite well, for starters. Another neat thing about it is that it’s by what many call Proto-Key (the company that staffed the guys who did Kanon, Air, Clannad, etc, all novels I haven’t finished due to their massive lengths). However, unlike classic Key storytelling, MOON. is quite different. So different, in fact, it’s hard to believe MOON.’s from the same group.

Ok guys I have a thing for collecting figures.  I also have a thing for dark skinned elves.  So what’s my natural reaction when a dark skinned elf figure is released? Must buy! To the left is Arshes Nei (made by Orchid Seed) from the (still) on-going manga Bastard!! and to the right is Sandaime Muramasa (made by Max Factory) from the visual novel Full Metal Daemon Muramasa by Nitroplus.  I currently own Arshes Nei, and I have Sandime Muramasa on pre-order (she will be releasesd in March 2012). Hey guys and welcome to part 3 of “Judge’s Batman Extravaganza!”  I’ve never really elaborated on this mini-series I’m running.  Well ever since I got Batman: Arkham City last month (review here), I’ve been in the Batman mood.  I’ve watched all the Batman movies (yes even the terrible Batman and Robin) and many of the animated works.  I just can’t get enough Batman!  All right, now that that’s out of the way, today I’ll be looking at the Epilogue episode of Justice League Unlimited.  In case you’re wondering, Epilogue was meant to be the final episode of JLU, but the show surprisingly was renewed for a second season.  Regardless, it brought closure to Batman Beyond.   Continue reading »

It's Jack Guony, the Trash Pony!

To commemorate MLP’s rise in popularity among both children and adults of both sexes, I’ve drawn a My Little Pony version of Jack Guo.

As you can see, his hair/mane/tail is the same color of Osc*r the Grouch, and his fur is snot colored. Entirely necessary. And also, that brown stuff on his hooves? A mixture of dirt and poop, obviously. The amount of it on his hooves depends on the amount of time since his last shower.

Jack Guony’s cutie mark is of a broken heart, because he can never get with a girl. Due to his greasiness.

But after all that’s said and done, this is just a joke. We all love Jack very dearly.

As most everyone has probably heard by now, Arkham City, the sequel to the popular Arkham Asylum, premiered only a few weeks ago to great fanfare. Already, people have praised it for everything from graphics to story to the feeling that the player really is Batman as he or she plays. Judge reviewed the game recently, going with the majority opinion that the game is amazing. What a lot of people don’t know, however, is that DC actually released a series of comics this past Spring in order to bridge the gap between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Though I’ve never played the games, I still took the liberty to read the comic collection with an open mind. Did this comic series even remotely live up to the game’s hype?

Season two of Working’!! is still underway, so let’s get down to some of my impressions.

But let’s have an appetizer, Pluffei’s review from season 1.

Okie-dokie, when I saw Working’!! I fell in love with the premise immediately.  Having worked in a family restaurant, this series resonates with me.

For last week’s edition of Saturday Morning Cartoons, I talked at length about why I feel animation can be equally satisfying for adults as for children. One point that I would like to emphasize is my position that nostalgia is one great joy animation can provide for the adult viewer; however, nostalgia is a somewhat unique experience. It can be either an incredibly rich, satisfying emotion or a fleeting syrupy feeling that doesn’t really amount to much once the moment has passed. The most puzzling thing to me about nostalgia’s effect on people is that it is often the second, more empty version of nostalgia that inspires blind devotion in an audience.

You know, I think it’s one of those weird unspoken rules of film that all Tim Burton movies must be weirdly enthralling, whether the film itself is good or not. So, before his use of the bizarre became overkill, we got some visually stimulating and memorable films. The one everyone remembers is The Nightmare Before Christmas but the Burton film that stands out the most to me is not animated, or Batman.

This Manic Movie Magic, we’re going to be looking at one of my favorite films of all time, Beetlejuice.

Is it legal for a game to be this much fun?

Hello there Moar Powah! Welcome to phase 2 of SIYM’s Project Warpath! Hope everyone enjoyed the double-feature/catch-up yesterday with Modern Warfare 3.  Looking back, there really wasn’t much to say about the game. Despite its historical launch, the product is essentially MW2 with a few trick up its sleeve. For COD fans, that’s more than enough. For those still holding out on the series or maybe those who fell out of love for the franchise, it definitely won’t cause any change of heart. However, moving forward, let’s talk First Impressions with Saints Row the Third . . .

As I’ve mentioned before in previous posts, the Saints Row franchise has absolutely no priority above having fun. Even without cheat codes activated, this game is an undeniably good time from the get go. For starters, the game opens up with silly sequences that would require me bestowing a nobel prize to anyone who could remotely make sense of it. A few minutes later, the game finally opens up after some obligatory need-to-do’s and then the real Saints Row begins. For those of you familiar with Saints Row 2, this game follows along the same lines as MW3 by not veering too far off the proven path and focuses primarily on upgrading its strengths. The sandbox is still there; however, the experience itself does feel a bit more shooter-friendly. Basically, accommodations were made to smooth out the run-and-gun gameplay that was not too polished in the previous Saints Row. The game is fun, no doubt about it, and it’ll be interesting to see what else turns up in the coming days. All things considered, the addition of new weapons (predator missle!) new looks (golden skin!) and some hilarious modes of transportation (the Johnny Gat mobile anyone?) make this installment a fine addition to the franchise. Look forward to a full review next week on Thursday. Hope you enjoyed!

Welcome Moar Powah! To the very first SIYM Double Feature! Or should I say . . . “Watch as SIYM1207 desperately tries to play it off like he didn’t just screw up the launch of his very own Project Warpath and SIYM friday last week!” Seriously though, I apologize to anyone inconvenienced by the series of unfortunate events that involved ridiculous error messages and some truly unforeseeable circumstances. Now, back to business! Hope you guys enjoyed the above video (if you haven’t, do it now!) as it was supposed to be last Friday’s SIYM and is now a part of today’s Moar Powah review. Right below is the official review of Modern Warfare 3, I hope you guys like it!

“Let’s do this . . .”

Modern Warfare 3 is the single greatest launch in video game history (#fact). Period. Nothing even comes close. I knew going into this review that it would be a challenge to properly formulate my opinion of this experience. Mainly because it’s so easy to let COD-rage wash over you and color your every opinion. If the introductory video above has made anything clear it should be this: Modern Warfare 3 is FRUSTRATING! Don’t believe me? Ask the critics. Despite the intense swelling of emotions that come from playing Call of Duty games, I present to you an objective take on the franchise’s latest and greatest! Continue reading »
