Welcome to the third installment of The Retrospective, where I, an internet nobody, plays and evaluates games from the past that I just happened to miss out on at the height of their popularities. In the greatest of all my convenient coincidences, I just happened to pick and play Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty mere days before the official reveal of MGS V: The Phantom Pain (no big surprise there, of course, but damn what a good trailer).

So yes, before this past week, I had never touched a Metal Gear game. Truth be told, the only reason I chose the game was because the recent release Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance caught my attention thanks to its affiliation to Platinum Games (a developer I adore for its spectacular Vanquish), and I wanted to familiarize myself with Raiden. Well I’ve since finished the experience and have some choice words for what proceeded to astound, conflict, and deeply affect me. Let’s dive into it.

It’s been 4 years since Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released, and it finally has trophies. Yesterday, a patch was released that allows you to earn trophies for one of the PS3′s best titles. Konami had this to say about the patch:

The download will be automatically implemented the next time you login to PlayStation Network with Hideo Kojima’s masterpiece, and adds 34 Trophies to the game. The trophies reward players for skilled play and for finding easter eggs such as using a drum can to knock down enemies. There’s never been a better time to revisit one of the PlayStation 3′s most acclaimed titles.

You can  check out the Metal Gear Solid 4 trophy list here. Some of the them are pretty weird, but I’m not surprised due to Hideo Kojima’s quirky humor. It’s important to note that you cannot earn trophies using your old save files. If you need an excuse to pick up this title again (or pick it up for the first time), now’s your chance. I know my brother LIFE will be revisiting this game pretty soon. Happy hunting!

I’m being lazy with today’s “Mecha Monday.” I bring you the latest Revoltech from Anubis: Zone of the Enders, the Jehuty and Vector Cannon. This thing is badass. Look for the Zone of the Enders HD Collection December 12th of this year (y so long Hideo Kojima?!?!?!).
