Laevatein: Hey everyone, welcome back to our Sai Mecha 2012 coverage! As usual, you can see the results of this round here, and you can see our Earth Side, Round 2 coverage here. Kaushik here is returning once again. So let’s start off with this particularly exciting round. Continue reading »
Welcome everyone to another Sai Mecha round. This time, it’s Round 2 of the Earth Side tournament. You can see reactions to Earth Side, Round 1, and Colony Side, Round 1, here. We’re now down to a select few mechs left. Continue reading »
Judge: Hey there ladies and gentleman, Laevatein and I here to give our reactions to Sai Mecha Colony Side, Round 1 just like we did for the Earth Side, Round 1. To get things kicked off, any initial thoughts about the pairings?
Laevatein: Well, it seems like most of my picks won.
Judge: There were definitely a lot of staple choices in this round. First up: Turn A vs. Tauburn (72.3% vs 27.7%). Pretty easy matchup for the Turn A.
Laevatein: Yeah, I fucking love the Turn A, so I voted for it. I’m kind of surprised, since it seems nobody likes the designs, but, well, it destroyed the Tauburn, and I can see why. I fear for the Turn A’s performance in the future.
Judge: Really? I don’t think it will have much trouble. It may look extremely goofy, but it’s a classic. Butterfly wings ftw. Second matchup: Kshatriya vs. Durandal (61.84% vs 38.16%) . I had a feeling Kshatriya would easily win. Continue reading »
Hey guys, Lavaetein and I are going to give some short reactions to the results of Sai Mecha Earth Side, Round 1. Let’s get started.
Gurren Lagann (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) – 68.91% vs ARX-7 Arbalest (Full Metal Panic) – 31.09%
Lavaetein: I was hoping for Arbalest, but realistically, I knew Gurren Lagann would win. I’m rooting for Gurren Lagann in the later rounds, though
Judge: Yeah, not surprised at all. A mech powered by manly willpower won’t lose to one powered by a lambda driver.
Big O (Big O) - 59.35% vs GN-001 Gundam Exia (Gundam 00) – 40.64%
Lavaetein: Big O is the best, that’s all I have to say. Exia was cool for being different, but Big O is like the Batman of mecha. Erm, the Batmobile of mecha.
Judge: Hahahaha. I was actually surprised the Big O won. I thought the newfags would vote in the Exia. Thank goodness for real mecha fans.
Lavaetein: I was worried this would turn out like SaiMoe, where mostly recent stuff wins. Good thing people remember shows from the past. Continue reading »
Judge here making a quick appearance from the dead to give his picks for Sai Mecha 2012. Fellow writers Laevatein and Kaushik have also submitted their picks. So what is Sai Mecha 2012? It’s a contest that was started last year by ExecutiveOtaku of THAT Anime Blog. Basically, people submit their 10 favorite mecha. The 32 mecha with the most nominations will be put into a randomized bracket and split into the Earth Side and Colonies Side. Then the chaos ensues. Big thanks to Kuro for informing me about this. Check out his nominations here. The nomination process ends on April 29th. Email your picks to executiveotaku [AT] gmail.com. Without further ado, here are the Moar Powah writers’ picks.
EDIT: No mecha from video games or manga.
