Hello again. LIFE posted an article on his assigned day two weeks in a row? Crazyyyy. But anyways we are here to talk about StarCraft 2 ladies and gents. My fav game :D

So what about StarCraft 2 you ask? BALANCE YO. Is the Wings of Liberty version of StarCraft 2 balanced as of right now (May 2012)? I say nay. Why? Because Terran is getting nerfed, Protoss is getting buffed to the max, and Zerg is…well in between buffed and nerfed. So let us begin.

Terran is getting nerfed to the max. About a year ago, Terran was the most dominant race because the Korean eSports team SlayerS created builds that allowed them to excel far beyond the other races. Blue-flamed hellions, 1-1-1 all-ins or what Husky StarCraft likes to call it the Destiny Cloud Fist build, bunker rushing, reaper rushes pre-patch for speed upgrade. Man the list goes on, ghost nerf of EMP and snipe. Man the list is sooo long. I mean as someone who know plays all three races at a Diamond level of play, I can honestly say that Terran is by far the weakest race now. Too many nerfs is killing the race and even BroodWar legend Flash is saying that Terran is the weakest race. Now let us move to Protoss, too much negativity here. Continue reading »

Hey guys, long time no see.  I’m finally back and ready to dish out some more “LIFE Lessons.”  So Blizzard recently came out with their “Situation Report” Patch 1.4.3, and what little goodies came with it Let’s take a look…if you haven’t seen it already.

1) MULEs now harvest the same amount of minerals on both high yield minerals and normal minerals.

Hmm, well basically they are free SCVs, right? But they mine faster…right? So yeah…GOOD JOB BLIZZARD! High yield mineral patches are no longer OP when playing against a Terran! YESSSSSSSS!

2) Snipe damage changed from 45 to 25 +25 Psionic

Hmm, what does Matt think about this? Well Matt can sum it up in two words: “FUCKING FINALLY.” It took Blizzard long enough to realize the Ghosts were clearly the best unit to use against TvP and TvZ match ups. Snipes literally turn all Zerg tier 3 units to a pile of blood and guts and sniping High Templar are quite frustrating as a Protoss player. FUCKING FINALLY.

3) Phoenix now has a range upgrade at the Fleet Beacon

Hmm…uhhh….errmm…4v4 Phoenix play now becomes MOAR fun? Yeah that’s about it. Other than that I’d have to actually see what it does in a 1v1 match up against a flock of Mutalisks. So we shall have a follow up post patch.

*To be honest, I’m neutral on this. Not sure how it will affect the game…honestly I think it will neutralize Mutalisk play versus Protoss but then again the Fleet Be[acon] is a long long ways plus the additional money for the upgrade…hmm we shall see.

4) APM / CPM changes

APM v CPM…finally Blizzard, bwwaaaa and I love to see how fast we can spam our keys (we judge how good you are on your APM, LOLOLOLOLOL). The EPM which stands for Effective Actions Per Minute will be the Blizzard way of tracking APM which only counts one keystroke as opposed to the twenty-bagillion times you spam the “e” key to make a probe. Well gents…and ladies…that’s all folks. Til next time.

The text speaks for itself. *drewbie* -"well how would you have played it?" *idra* - i wouldn't play terran cuz i have self respect"

So here we are again. 168 hours later. I am writing another post. Now last week I did a MW3-BF3 comparison/ contrast/ whatever you want to call it. This week I am here to discuss Starcraft 2 because my mind has been on it with the IPL3 that occurred this past weekend and MLG Orlando and IEM NYCC occurring this weekend. I am here to write about the unbalance issues in StarCraft 2. Let us begin.

So ladies and gents, this past weekend was MLG yet again in Raleigh. Many tournaments were held (4 in fact) including League of Legends, Call of Duty Black Ops, Halo Reach, and Starcraft 2. Now being the Korean I am I watched the Starcraft 2 stream and am pleased to say that the Koreans placed top 6. Now who would argue that that isn’t bad ass for the Koreans. But I digress, the top 6 were: STBomber, SlayerSCoca, coLMVPDongRaeGu, oGsNada, EG-Puma and Liquid_HerO. All Koreans…did I mention that? You can find the top 32 players here. Continue reading »

For those who do not know, Starcraft II is my favorite RTS game, and I play it often. LIFE44 went over all the standard builds already (you should read it), so there’s not much I can add to that. Instead, what I will be going over will be cheese/rush builds that he has not, and how to execute them properly. All-in cheese/rush builds are some of my most favorite builds, as I enjoy surprise tactics as well as causing opponents to rage over how they lost and still have a higher score than me. These are definitely fun to use every now and then, but should not become anyone’s standard play.

Marine-Mule Rush (6 Racks Timing Push)

This is a build that can easily fool the vast majority of players, as it appears to be one of many standard terran builds. There are quite a few variations, but this is my preferred one. It begins off as a standard terran build. Build 10 SCV’s then build a supply depot.  Then build a barracks at 12 supply. However, the key is to stop production at 15 supply. Build an orbital command and one marine, then build until you have 4 marines total at 19/19 supply. Build one moar supply depot to do the standard terran block-off. The key is to save up for 5 barracks and lay them all down at once. During all of this, you constantly need to be building mules, as minerals are crucial. After all 6 barracks are constructed, create 12 marines. You should have a total of 16 marines when you start pushing. Remember to constantly build supply depots because being supply-blocked with this rush means death. Set the rally point of the 6 barracks to right outside your opponent’s base and constantly reinforce and push. Getting the build down will take a while, but this is a very fun build that tends to leave opponents baffled at the amount of marines made.

3 Roach-Speedling

This build was made to counter protoss walling and works shockingly well. The first thing to do is to build to 10 drones, and move your starting overlord to scout immediately for your opponent’s base. Build an overlord next, and use that one for scouting as well. By now you should have located your opponent’s base. Move one overlord to their opening ramp to provide sight. Next is to build 3 moar drones, followed by a spawning pool once you have 200 minerals. Build an extracter after that (mine for gas immediately after completion), and immediately pump drones until there’s 15 drones total. After the spawning pool finishes, throw down a Queen (constantly spawn larvae, derp) followed by a Roach Warren. Get 2 zerglings (2 zerglings = one supply) and start the metabolic research. Use those 2 zerglings to scout for proxies. Build another overlord after that, follow it with 3 roaches, and then pull drones from the extracter to minerals. Build another overlord, and from that point on produce nothing but zerglings and set the rally point to right outside your opponent’s base. Now pull the overlord that’s close to your opponent’s opening ramp in order to reveal how he’s walled off and snipe the weakest point of the wall with roaches. Push in with speedlings and constantly reinforce. Generally speaking, this will knock down a protoss player unless they chose to muster up an early rush force as well or choose to cannon up.

*Strategies in bold denote one’s added by Judge

Ah Starcraft…the beloved Real-Time-Strategy game from Blizzard that everyone loves…especially South Koreans. But in today’s world, Starcraft 2 has caught the eyes of many more people than just Koreans. Europeans and the continent of North America (Canada and America) have had players come out and compete at some of the top levels of the Korean players. Starcraft 1 and its expansion, Brood War, was a very diverse game but only had very few strategies and counters, but when Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty came, all hell broke loose. The emergence of strategies and “How-to-do” style videos came out more and more and the more patches Blizzard makes, the more tweaks the strategies get. With the next addition to Starcraft 2 a year away (give or take a few months, who knows when Blizzard will release it), Wings of Liberty still has much to do. Here are some strategies that are both funny and standard gameplay strategies for all three races: Continue reading »
