The first issue of Marvel’s biggest event of the year is finally here! With an enticing set-up in Issue #0 and tons of hype leading up to the series premier, the bar’s been set very high for Marvel. I attended an Avengers vs. X-Men launch party of my local comic store tonight which allowed me to purchase the issue a day early so I could review it for all of you here. How did it turn out?
Marvel’s been talking about and advertising their “Avengers vs. X-Men” event for the last few months and now, finally, we have the first issue in the series. If hype and advertising are to be believed, this event will shake the core of the Marvel Universe and influence events for years to come; whether that is true or not, there’s definitely a lot of energy and amazing comic creators behind these books. How did this introductory issue fare?
The final showdown between Magneto and Joseph is here at last! With the last few issues building up to the final battle of original and clone, this conclusion promised a lot of destruction and even more soul searching. The beginning of this series was fairly decent and then slackened a bit; how did the entire story turn out?
Everything finally comes together in this issue as Joseph’s true plan is revealed: Magneto’s clone has been working with Christopher Bach, leader of Humans Now, an Anti-Mutant group whose members were massacred by Joseph himself back in the first issue. Bach intended to stir up anti-mutant sentiment by having Joseph slaughter a small group of his followers, but now Joseph claims the plan is progressing too slowly. As a result, the villainous copy decides to attack a large rally of Anti-Mutant protesters at Chicago’s Millennium Park. Magneto rushes to stop his doppleganger…but can he prevent this act which he might have once condoned?
Marvel just announced their big event for Spring 2012: Avengers vs. X-Men! With an all-star team, including authors Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction, this series promises to an exciting, strong storyline. This event coincides with the return of Phoenix to the Marvel Universe: what will this entity’s arrival bring? How will its return polarize the Avengers and the X-Men? Clearly, Marvel is choosing an excellent time to make this announcement and a great time to release the series: with DC’s New 52 already 4 months in, the hype has died down a bit, so this release should garner a lot of discussion. Also, the series will premier right around the time the Avengers movie hits theaters, potentially giving Marvel a new base of readers. The series will contain 12 issues and be released bi-weekly. I look forward to A vs. X and will be sure to pick it up!
What are your thoughts on the announcement? Who would be your ideal match-ups to fight? What side do you think will win? Please feel free to post thoughts on these or anything else in the comments section!

Hello all and welcome to your weekly rendition of Silverwolf’s Den! Today I’m reviewing Magneto: Not a Hero, the first chapter in this part of Marvel’s new Regenesis storyline. Magneto has always been one of my favorite villains, and thus when I saw a limited series on my comic store’s shelf my only option was to pick it up. Did this comic live up to my love of Magneto, or is it true that you can’t judge a book by its cover?
