This year’s New York Comic Con was the most impressive convention I have seen ever. And that’s not me flattering the organizers, this layout was a thousand times better than last year! All the games, guests, and great gear, I spent my entire Friday running around the convention center, getting in everything I could! Here’s my account of NYCC/NYAF 2011~
The area I spent the most time in, and I think had the most improvements was the dealer’s room. It was so huge, and covered such a great variety of tastes I was floored. I then ran around the entire span of the area three or four times, to make sure I hadn’t missed anything. Was it crowded? Of course, but it’s always crowded! The fact that they took the opportunity to use all of the space available in the Javits Center was a great idea. I loved every minute of perusing the halls and aisles, glancing at each
I’m a gamer, yes, but since there were no trials of Silent Hill: Downpour or Sly Cooper 4 (sadly, the only games I’m looking forward to seeing released), I stuck with what I know – the Just Dance booth. It looks like a fun game, and the motion sense technology has greatly improved with the camera system rather than Wii-mote flail fests.
The newly created app for the convention is helpful for looking up maps and where the autographs are, but it was very hard to download while in the convention center, and didn’t really help you find booths, just the aisles, which made finding specific things kind of tricky.
The Anime Fest section was, again, small, but at least it was in a nicer room! I very much appreciated that as I roamed about the artist’s alley. (lovely crafts by the way! SO CHEAP AND LOVELY!)
This year, Felicia Day was there…oh and Mark Hamil but FELICIA DAY WAS THERE! I was lucky enough to get her autograph and have a photo with her, even though it was the end of the day and she looked exhausted. I am one step closer to fulfilling all my life goals now! Autograph area was a little blah, and the lines were forever long, and they could fix the ticketing system so we all get different times.
I also was able to meet Brentalfloss, who makes some of the funniest songs on the internet, and has his own web comic! Also Ian McNeice, who plays Wintson Chuchhill in Doctor Who, and Stan Lee! This year was full of celebrities for me…except the TGWTG people who I couldn’t find…next year!
So, loyal or passerby readers, I hope to see you all next year when I shall go to New York Comic Con and Anime Fest 2012.
